WEL Energy Trust will open nominations for its 2026 trustee elections on 17 April, inviting people across the district to stand for one of seven governance positions.
Nominations run until 14 May. Any eligible elector aged 18 or over living within the Trust district – covering Hamilton City, most of Waikato District and part of Waipā – can stand.
The Trust owns WEL Networks and oversees decisions on community grants, electricity rebates and energy support programmes. In the past two years, it has distributed $10.5 million annually in grants and returned $14.5 million each year in customer rebates.
Trustees are paid, and no prior energy sector experience is required.
Candidates need two nominators from within the district and must provide a profile and photo.
