The Raglan Horticultural Society’s Flower Show will be in full bloom on Saturday, November 1 at the Raglan Town Hall.
Society president Geoff Pownall says they are looking forward to showcasing a wide selection of prize-winning flowers and vegetables, with an assortment of colours and fragrances on display.
“The move to a summer show proved successful in 2023, as it gave the community an opportunity to present the beautiful flowers budding at this time of the year, and we had a great selection of vegetables as well.”
The show welcomes horticulturalists of all ages and at every stage of their gardening journey.
Flower categories include roses, sweet peas, poppies, geraniums, and pelargoniums, while vegetables will feature brassicas, root vegetables, and legumes.
Entrants will be judged on their gardening and creative abilities, with sections for floral art and children’s entries. Floral art categories include miniature arrangements, beachcomber art, flowers and foliage, and native plant decorations.
Green-fingered youngsters will be competing for best sand saucer, and miniature garden on a dinner plate.
Set up for entrants is 9-10.30am, judging runs from 10.30-11.30am and the show opens to the public from 12.30pm with a koha entry. Check out the winners at the prizegiving 2pm.
The Flower Show restarted in 2014 after a break of 25 years and runs on alternate years with the very popular Garden Ramble.
Celebrating over 120 years, the Raglan Horticultural Society started in 1902 when a group of local farmers decided to hold a vegetable show.
Details on how to enter can be found on the Raglan Horticultural Society’s Facebook page or at the Raglan Library, iHub, Raglan Community House, Whāingaroa Environment Centre, and the local schools.
