‘What foods should I eat, how can I afford to eat healthy when I have diabetes?’ or ‘Diabetes is in my family, but I don’t have it yet, how can I change my diet to help prevent diabetes developing?’ or ‘My partner/whanau member has diabetes, how can I support them, and what foods should I cook for them?’
These are all common questions that Fiona McNabb is asked every day that she works with people in her clinics at Raglan Medical.
Colin Chung is famous in Raglan for his skills as a chef, hospitality manager, author and teacher. He has also managed type 2 diabetes for the last 20 years with diet, regular exercise, initially without medicines and now with the bare minimum of support with medicines.
Fiona and Colin are running 3 three-hour koha workshops at the Raglan Community House in February and March to help anyone who is keen to learn about how to prepare diabetes friendly meals on a budget.
