There is more to Raglan Volunteer Coastguard than saving lives at sea.
Every Wednesday we train our crew, and we actively seek training that can also leverage the success and upskilling of other local Trusts.
In May 2026 our Rescue Watercraft (RWC) crew were out training with a new piece of kit; trialling the inflatable rescue tube.
A rescue tube is a lightweight, inflatable device designed to provide immediate flotation in the water. We train to use it to support unconscious patients during swim rescues, assist conscious patients to stay afloat, and provide extra buoyancy when it’s needed most. Simple, effective, and a valuable addition to our toolkit.
Massive credit to the crew for getting out there on a cold, dark night and putting in the work.

Community Collaboration
In May our crew also teamed up with the awesome volunteers from Raglan Fire and Emergency. The crew got hands-on with dry powder and CO2 extinguishers, sharpening skills to keep our community safe on and off the water.
It was an incredibly informative session and an awesome reminder of the strength of our local emergency volunteer network. Huge thanks to our Raglan FENZ for sharing their expertise!

Another update from our Shorecrew on the fundraising campaign for the new vessel; a thank you to Meridian Energy https://www.meridianenergy.co.nz/ for their support towards the electronics in the new boat build. We are so grateful for all of the Trusts and donors that are stepping in to realise this incredible asset for our community. Our old Vessel Gallagher Rescue has served her time; at over 25 years of service she has rescued and brought home many. We know that the new vessel will enable Raglan Volunteer Community Coastguard to remain operational for generations to come. Thanks Meridian, it’s great to have you part of this journey.
