Young creatives in Whāingaroa are invited to get hands-on with storytelling and art at an upcoming zine-making workshop at Raglan Library.
Facilitated by zinester Fe Foster, the session will guide participants through the process of creating a simple zine booklet from a single page. Whether it’s their first time or they’ve made zines before, the workshop is designed to be accessible, creative and fun.
Zines — which rhyme with “scene” — are small, self-made publications that can take many forms, from stories and poems to comics, collage, photography and artwork. They’ve long been a way for people to share ideas, express themselves and experiment creatively without needing formal tools or training.
The Raglan session offers a chance for young people to explore that process in a relaxed, supportive environment, while learning practical skills they can take away and continue using at home.

The workshop is part of the wider Kirikiriroa Hamilton Zinefest 2026 programme, now in its 12th year. Supported by the Creative Communities Scheme, the festival celebrates DIY publishing and creative expression, bringing together artists, makers and creatives from across the region.
Alongside the main market day, a series of free workshops are being held in libraries and community spaces, helping to make zine-making accessible to a wider audience — including young people here in Raglan.
The main Zinefest event will take place on Saturday 9 May at Hamilton Central Library, featuring stalls, local creators and a range of handmade publications.
