Community voices shape future of tourism and events

April 24, 2026

More than 250 responses have been received for the Whāingaroa Raglan Destination Management Organisation’s (WRDMO) tourism and events survey, highlighting strong local support and delivering a wealth of valuable feedback.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in the survey; the insights gathered reflect a wide range of perspectives and will play an important role in shaping a balanced approach to growth.

As a token of appreciation, all participants went in the draw to win a locally sourced gift basket.

Congratulations to Christina Bianchi who competed the survey at the Raglan Creative Market.

Her feedback highlighted key pillars for a thriving tourism and events sector – balancing the needs of the economy, environment, visitors and the local community.

“Being able to respond while out and about created space for meaningful conversations – even with my niece – about what we value as a community,” she says. “It sparked discussions about balancing economic benefits with protecting our local environment, and how different perspectives can still share a common goal. The interactive macadamia nut activity made those ideas tangible and easy to understand, especially for younger people.”

The prize pack included a Wahine Moe Sunset Cruise for two as well as locally made products from the Raglan iHUB – Raglan Upcycled Cushion, Centre Bush beeswax candle, Raglan Natural Food and Body Epsom salt soak, Raglan Sea Salt, Raglan Raw Honey, a selection of Foraged in Raglan products, and an ‘Aroha’ pottery wall hanging.

Consultation began on 12 December and closed on 31 March, with pop-ups at the Raglan Growers Market and Raglan Creative Market. The survey was widely promoted through Raglan Community Radio, the Raglan Chronicle, and direct engagement with key stakeholders, as well as being available at the Raglan iHUB, open seven days a week from 10am to 3pm. Findings will be shared with the community in July.
