Silver haul real triumph for pair who fell into paddling

A Raglan West couple have triumphed over adversity – and inexperience – to make a big splash overseas in waka ama racing.

And they’ve three silver medals to show for it.

Eighth annual bike race shines in event history

It was the fastest Karioi Classic event in history – no one competing in the final 43km Classic race took longer than four hours and record times were made in the 87km Enduro and 57km Classic XL races.

“Maybe we should do drug testing next year and check for electric motors,” jokes organiser Dirk De Ruysscher, owner of Raglan Cyclery.

But it was also the best weather the event has ever seen and the roads around the mountain hadn’t had a load of fresh metal dumped on them recently. Keep Reading

Kids hunting competition good for possum control

Possum numbers in the Raglan region took a dive last weekend, thanks to the Kids’ Hunting and Fishing Competition.

Fifty-seven possums were strung up along a gate at the Raglan Rugby Club, where the weigh-in for the contest was held on Sunday. Keep Reading

Taggart beats NZ champ to win King of the Waitemata title

Raglan kite foiler Matt Taggart was crowned King of the Waitemata last Saturday after beating New Zealand’s current foiling champion to win the inaugural regatta in Auckland’s North Shore.

The King of the Waitemata Regatta, a counter clockwise, 34 kilometre circumnavigation of  Rangitoto and Mototapu Islands, was open to any wind-powered vessel and attracted New Zealand’s top kite foilers.  Keep Reading

The kids’ version of the annual, giant Karioi Classic bike race is fast approaching.
